Description

Dreaming:

Patricia and her sister, the gifted Teresa Baker, learned the Tjukurrpa (Dreamings) of their land from their elders. Patricia’s artwork reflects the stories handed down to her, particularly the Minyma Malilu narrative, which speaks of an ancestral spiritual woman. This story is linked to a significant site, a cave located near Kanpi, which holds deep spiritual meaning for Aṉangu women like Patricia, as it is believed to possess healing powers. The Inma (ceremony) to honor Malilu's spirit continues to be performed there today. Following in the footsteps of her sister and mother, Patricia portrays her physical and spiritual ancestral country from a topographic perspective, illustrating the interconnected tunnels of Malilu's cave and elements of the story.
